CTMD’s partnership with City Lore, World Music Insitute and Society for the Educational Arts is aimed at creating a major new arts center dedicated to the preservation and presentation of New York City’s living cultural heritage. Housing a theater, gallery, library, café, gift shop, music school, study center and archive of historic images and recordings, CATCH will serve as the site for musical concerts, conferences, music classes, theatrical productions, exhibitions, storytelling and poetry presentations. In addition, CATCH will include smaller offices and subsidized facilities for newly established ethnic specific groups.
The consortium has worked with Holly Sidford of AEA Consulting and Paul Wolf of Denham Wolf to create a programmatic vision for CATCH, determine governance of the new entity, and develop a business plan, a real estate procurement plan and a development plan for a major capital campaign. The partners are working with various government and private sources to identify potential sites for CATCH.
The CATCH partners have already received $350,000 in planning grants for the project, including $200,000 from the LuEsther T. Mertz Foundation, $100,000 from the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation and $50,000 from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
