New Global Beat of the Boroughs CD release!
A celebration of the 2004 release of the third Global Beat of the Boroughs compact disc compilation, Quisqueya en el Hudson: Dominican Music in New York (Smithsonian Folkways Recordings).

Family Program: At 1:00pm — The Conjunto Folklórico will also present a family program of merengue dance rhythms and steps and highlights from the Dominican carnival traditions including the diablos cahuellos masquerade and the roba de galina rag dancers of the gagá processional dance.

Luis Dias is an innovative composer and performer of the urban, guitar-led bachata music fused with rock, country and jazz. Dias is also a master interpreter of folk traaditions of the Dominican Republic.

A Bronx-based mix of both classic and original merengue and son, Coco Merenson performs a dynamic fusion of Dominican and Cuban sounds with horns, guitars, congas, tambora and güiro in a captivating blen of old and new Caribbean styles.

Washing Heights-based Conjunto Folklórico de la Alianza Dominicana performs social and sacred dances of the Dominican Republic.

Special guest, salves singer Doña Chicha, in call-and-response ceremonial singing accompanies by panderos and atabales.
