CTMD presents a full calendar of events that work to maintain the vibrancy of New York’s ethnic performing arts traditions and present them to wide public audiences. CTMD’s professional staff of folklorists and ethnomusicologists work throughout the year in partnership with community members and cultural specialists to research the music and dance traditions of the city’s immigrant and ethnic neighborhoods and integrate this research into programming that is captivating for audiences as well as educational. 
Community Cultural Initiatives
CTMD’s nationally acclaimed Community Cultural Initiatives (CCIs) are multi-year projects that help artists, educators and activists within immigrant and ethnic communities to preserve, present and pass on their cultural traditions. CTMD is currently conducting CCIs in New York’s Peruvian, Chinese, Ukrainian and Jewish communities and initiating a new CCI in the Colombian community. Over its history, CTMD has done extensive multi-year projects in New York’s Albanian, Arab, Asian-Indian, Dominican, Filipino, Greek, Indo-Caribbean, Irish, Italian, Macedonian, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Soviet Jewish and West African communities. .

Sharing Traditions
Provides youth in immigrant communities with intensive free after-school instruction and ensemble performance opportunities in the music and dance traditions of their community.

Touring Artists
Promotes a roster of leading New York-based traditional ensembles for performances, workshops and residencies at concert venues and universities throughout North America.

Masters on Stage: Major Concerts & Festivals
CTMD regularly showcases the leading practitioners of New York’s rich immigrant expressive traditions, as well as major artists from abroad to wide public audiences. Presentations include the biennial New York World Festival at Central Park SummerStage and the annual Heritage Sunday Festival at Lincoln Center Out of Doors.

The largest collection of video, sound recordings, photographs and ephemera documenting the diversity of New York’s immigrant performing arts traditions over the past forty years.

Recordings and Publications
CTMD regularly produces and collaborates on audio, video, and written publications with partners such as Smithsonian Folkways.

Global Beat of the Boroughs eNewletter
CTMD provides features on master artists, upcoming programs and news about New York City’s traditional music and dance scene.

Fiscal Sponsorship/Technical Assistance
Provision of fiscal and technical services to artists, ensembles and nascent cultural organizations.

Center for Art, Tradition and Cultural Heritage (CATCH)
A consortium formed by CTMD, City Lore, World Music Institute and Society for the Educational Arts to create a new cultural center dedicated to the preservation and presentation of New York’s living cultural heritage.
