Abdoulaye Diabate and Super Manden
African Troubadour
The impressive ensemble Super Manden features an extraordinary
collection of master musicians led by revered balafon player, Abou
Sylla, and singer, Abdoulaye Diabate, dubbed the “African
Troubadour.” Featured vocalist Abdoulaye Diabate, originally
from Mali, was raised in the heart of the jali (griot) tradition.
With his passionate voice and overflowing energy, he sings traditional
West African tales that recount histories, genealogy and praise
to patrons. With this rich tradition and the traditional African
instruments of kora,
ngoni, djembe,
and balafon,
as well as guitar and flute, Super Manden explores the musical territory
of West Africa, evoking the nations of Mali, Gambia, Guinea and
Guinea-Bissau.
